Toyota - Kinto Flex

January 1, 2025 //  Commissioned Work

Toyota Norway said yes to my barter pitch and lent me a car for free.

Here’s a summary of how it happened, and how I made it work. Recently, the timing belt on my car broke. My insurance didn’t cover the damage, and I couldn’t afford more repairs on my already worn-out campervan. So, I sold it for scrap value, leaving me with a minimal budget—far from enough to buy or rent a car for my upcoming photography assignments.

I reached out to several companies and pitched a barter deal. I proposed borrowing a car for three months in exchange for my photography services. Toyota Norway said yes and lent me a Bz4x. They gave me full creative freedom to photograph the car, with the clear goal of highlighting the logo for their new car rental company, Kinto Flex.

Every waking moment after work is spent in traffic, for better or worse. I navigated snow-covered mountains in Western Norway and discovered a partially submerged road, still driveable just beneath the water's surface.

Norwegian glaciers, mountains, and waterfalls showcase raw, sublime power, while natural wonders such as the northern lights, the midnight sun, the fjords, and peaceful national parks provide a sense of tranquility. To create a poetic visual contrast, I showcased both sides of nature in this car campaign for Toyota.

After delivering the images, Toyota Norway wanted to extend the collaboration. What initially began as a 3-month rental agreement was extended to 8 months.
